Universal Potting Mix for repotting a new plant

Your Plant Has Arrived: Here's How to Pot It Right

Your plant has travelled a long way to reach you. What you do in the first week decides how well it grows for years.

Don't worry, it's simple. Follow these 6 steps, from opening the box to its first feed, and your new plant will settle in happily. 🌱

1

Open the box gently

Start a video recording on your phone before you open the parcel. Cut the tape from the top and lift the plant out by its pot or bag, never by the stem. Remove the packing paper slowly. A few bent or yellow leaves after travel are normal and the plant will grow new ones.

📸 Plant arrived damaged? Take photos of the plant and the box, and keep the video you recorded while opening the parcel. Tell us within 48 hours of delivery using the damaged plant form, where you can upload the video too. We'll send you a new plant.
2

Give it water and rest

If the soil feels dry, water it lightly. Then keep the plant in a bright spot out of direct sun for 3–5 days. It needs this time to recover from the journey, so don't repot it on the first day.

3

Pick the right pot

Choose a pot just 1–2 inches wider than the nursery pot. A pot that's too big holds extra water and the roots can rot. Most important: the pot must have a hole at the bottom. Clay pots breathe well and suit outdoor plants; plastic pots are light and hold water a little longer.

4

Use the right soil

Plain garden soil becomes hard in a pot and holds too much water. A ready potting mix stays light and airy, so roots can breathe. Different plants like different mixes:

Repot in 5 easy moves

a. Cover the hole with a piece of broken pot or a stone so soil doesn't wash out.

b. Add a layer of potting mix at the bottom.

c. Tap the nursery pot and slide the plant out. For a grow bag, simply cut the bag open. Keep the ball of soil around the roots in one piece.

d. Set the plant at the same depth it was before and fill the sides with mix, pressing lightly. A khurpi makes this easy.

e. Water slowly until it drains out from the bottom hole.

6

Feed it, but wait a little

Fresh potting mix already has food in it. Wait 2–3 weeks before adding any fertilizer. After that, mix a spoon or two of vermicompost into the top soil once a month. A little neem cake powder in the soil helps keep pests away.
